Hi folks, after extensive googling and searching this forum, my best idea is that the sata dvd lightscribe DVD-DL burner that came in my HP af computer is a rebranded lite-on. Several months ago I found the right support contact to break me out of the loops and get Roxio installed. You can use the Flash Utility to download the firmware and kindly ask C0deKing to check what the equivalent LO drive would be. If you looked above that you would see that my firmware is for an “A” and that update is for a “C”. I saw the pinned note but the PX Engine does not seem to have helped in any visible way with my problem. I feel pretty sure this is a known problem with no good solution other than yanking the A unit and replacing with one that does not expose the problem.

Clean Install — Vista or XP. If you have satisfied the prerequisites but still can’t install the firmware update, I suggest you go back to HP saying your problem is ” can’t update the firmware to ZHCH “, rather than mentioning dvd-rrw write to DL” in the first place.

Have you tried reading another disk We were hoping the PxEngine might do the trick but it looks like reinstall is the only option open…. Just saw the post that referred to ImgBurn as a way to check for low device filters and sure enough mine are gone.

Posted Pdls 14, Pretty sure this is a driver problem, but not sure where to go from here. Sure enough, the next boot showed that there was blank media in the drive!
I had some luck with Memorex, not complete but promising. I am ready to start those back ups in earnest now You can find some patched firmwares here if you want to try.
No one has any suggestions? Will your drive open?

Sign up for a new account in our community. As you might have guessed by now, lots of fun with HP support as the driver update would not install leading to removal of the driver from device manager and deleting high and low water properties from the registry.
I noticed that even Windows was not recognizing the blank disk and saw that HP had an updated driver that included a fix for issues with recognizing DVD DL media. Several months ago I found the right support contact to break me out of the loops dy-16a6l-c get Roxio installed.

For those that find themselves out of support life with the A model, try media from different vendors. Already have an account? I unfortunately only have the Ritek Memorex DL media at hand.
